August Flamenco Programme at El Duende

Throughout August, El Duende welcomes El Chino, Marta Cañizares, José Montes, Eli Ayala, Susana Escoda, Sandra Cisneros, Mathilde Antón, and Sergio Barroso. A programme bringing together established artists and emerging talents in the intimate atmosphere that defines El Duende.

Marta Cañizares

Born in Benalmádena, Málaga, Marta Cañizares trained in Flamenco Dance at the Pepa Flores Professional Dance Conservatory and later specialised in Flamenco Dance Pedagogy at the Ángel Pericet Superior Dance Conservatory.

Winner of the Best Dancer Award at Málaga Crea in 2018, she has performed internationally with the Antonio Andrade Flamenco Company and currently forms part of Mercedes de Córdoba’s company. Her dancing combines technical precision, elegance, and expressive strength.

José Montes

José Montes graduated in Spanish Dance from the Antonio Ruiz Soler Professional Dance Conservatory in Seville. He later continued his training at the Andalusian Dance Centre and the Cristina Heeren Flamenco Art Foundation, where he received a scholarship for three consecutive years.

He has performed across Europe, Mexico, Morocco, and Abu Dhabi, and in 2020 won First Prize at the Ciudad de Jerez Tablao Dance Competition. His dancing brings intensity, character, and a deep connection to flamenco tradition.

Sandra Cisneros

Born in Málaga, Sandra Cisneros trained at the Pepa Flores Professional Dance Conservatory and graduated in Flamenco Choreography from the Ángel Pericet Superior Dance Conservatory.

She received Second Prize at the Villa Rosa Flamenco Competition in 2019 and reached the semifinals of the Festival Internacional del Cante de las Minas competition in 2022. She has developed artistic projects across Europe, Africa, and the Americas, shaping a personal and expressive style of dance.

El Chino

Born in Sant Roc, Badalona, in 2007, Sebastián Fernández “El Chino” comes from a Roma family with a deep flamenco tradition. He is the younger brother of renowned dancer Miguel Fernández “El Yiyo”.

Despite his youth, his strength, natural talent, and stage presence have made him one of the most exciting emerging figures in contemporary flamenco.

Eli Ayala

Eli Ayala is an experienced flamenco dancer who has worked with renowned companies led by artists such as Antonio Canales, Rafael Amargo, and Rubén Olmo.

She has also created and performed her own productions, including Retales, Como peces en el agua, and La Ventanera. Her dancing combines experience, personality, and a strong command of the stage.

Susana Escoda

Born in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, Susana Escoda began her professional career at Tablao Flamenco Cordobes and has shared the stage with some of the most important names in flamenco. Her career has also taken her to Japan on numerous occasions.

Her contemporary approach, rhythmic control, and close connection with singing and guitar make her a distinctive and powerful presence on stage.

Mathilde Antón

Mathilde Antón began studying flamenco in Toulouse before continuing her training in Madrid, Seville, and Barcelona with artists such as Concha Jareño, Alfonso Losa, Adela Campallo, Andrés Peña, and Sara Barrero.

She has taught and performed in countries including France, Spain, Belgium, Turkey, Finland, and Japan. Her international background brings versatility, sensitivity, and a personal perspective to her dancing.

Sergio Barroso

Born in Barcelona in 1998, Sergio Barroso began studying flamenco at the age of ten at the Paca García Flamenco School. He has developed his career as both a dancer and choreographer.

He is also the co-creator of ¡Silencio!, a production by Ballet Flamenco Llobregat that combines flamenco, singing, and theatre. On stage, his dancing stands out for its energy, elegance, and expressive presence.

Together, these artists make up an August programme full of strength, personality, and different ways of understanding flamenco.
